Gold (then about $1,100/oz) will reach about $5,000 an ounce within the next several years (read as by end of 2016).

Outcome

Right, but late Happened 26 January 2026.

Gold did not reach $5,000 within "several years". It was about $1,060 in December 2015 and ended 2016 around $1,150. Gold first passed $5,000 an ounce around January 26, 2026, about 16 years after the statement. I read "several years" as about seven (to end-2016); any reasonable reading of "several" gives the same result.
